Prototype PS5 Dualsense Motherboard picture surfaces

Kind of old but also new: some pictures of a PS5 Dualsense motherboard, posted back in March this year, appear to have been those of an early prototype of the device.

The picture has been initially posted in the GIMX GitHub, in a PS5 issue thread. GIMX is a piece of free software that lets one use their PC as a hub for their gaming consoles. In other words GIMX allows to use any controller on any console, going through your PC as a converter. The folks at GIMX have been trying to get Dualsense compatibility to work, and were discussing the internals of the PS5 controller. This is how the picture surfaced.

Scene member Zecoxao recently identified the motherboard as of an early prototype of the Dualsense, not retail.

The not-so-recently found picture has now been added to the psdevwiki, under the name BDM-010 (R10) (Speculated engineering sample). We’re of course curious as to how the prototype was acquired. But it seems the motherboard was sold as is, broken, on taobao a while ago.

A comparison of the retail Dualsense motherboard, and the alleged prototype, shows a difference on the main Chips. On the one hand a generic Mediatek one (the prototype), on the other hand an SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) one on retail. Developers are guessing the retail version is just a rebranding of the Mediatek chip rather than a new chip.
