A pretty original entry for the FuHEN PS Vita Homebrew contest, as this marmalade Boy game is a “port” of an LCD old school game, itself based on a popular manga series. I personally wouldn’t call it a “port” per se, as it is entirely written from scratch, based on the developer watching videos of the LCD game footage.

Side note, if you’re looking to acquire the original LCD game, you can do so for the very cheap price of $500+.

What is MarmaladeBoy_LCD for PS Vita

This homebrew is a remake of one of those old school LCD games which were quite simple but addictive: move your character from one side of the screen to the other, without getting hit by the various objects that want to destroy you (such as flower bouquets)

From the developer:

the main game is a port of the LCD game where you have to go from one point to another without dying to increase your score. The idea is based on this game ママレード・ボーイ LCD, you can watch a video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqLlV9Hwfhk

However, since it was practically redone from scratch only from watching the video, I ended up changing a few things and I also added features to the VPK, such a simple enduring game to avoid being hit by enemies and 2 extra lotteries/horoscope quizzes (those are based on old memories and experiences)

All are accessed separately through a simple menu with a clock at the left for those who want to keep the time in check.

As a reminder you will need a hacked PS Vita to run homebrew games. Hacking your PS Vita is a super easy and safe process nowadays (our guide here).

Installation instructions

From the developer:

Just send the VPK file to your Vita and install it.

It requires extended permissions due to the tool’s default settings and requirements, but I haven’t really used anything out of the ordinary.
