A week after the release of the Custom Firmware Evilnat 4.89.3 PEX/D-PEX , many have found many links for downloading PUP files, and with a question, which version to install?

 

Let’s try to get to the bottom of it, the developer Nathan Martin wanted to please everyone, from those who could not run the Custom Firmware due to the broken or damaged bluetooth module, to those who have a non-working blu-ray player.

We have therefore decided to draw up a small legend for those who may be facing the installation of a Custom Firmware on a PlayStation 3 console for the first time .

Supported models

Let’s start from the supported models, all FAT models can install and run a Custom Firmware, while the Slim models are divided between some versions that mount a 3.56 factory firmware and others a 3.60 factory firmware.

Some models could mount different cards (for example if you sent the console to be repaired at some authorized centers or by some modders).

In this case it is always good to check the factory firmware by installing the  MinVerChk PUP file .

We remind you that to date it is not possible to install and run a Custom Firmware on PlayStation 3 consoles that mount a factory firmware equal to or greater than version 3.60.

If, on the other hand, the console already mounts a Custom Firmware, it is possible to update by copying the file PS3UPDAT.PUPto a USB stick:

  • On the USB storage device, create folders to save the update file.
  • From a computer, create a folder with the name PS3. Inside this folder, create another folder called UPDATE.
  • Download the Custom Firmware chosen for the update and save it in the folder UPDATE.
  • The PUP file must be renamed exactly to PS3UPDAT.PUP.
  • Connect the USB storage device where the update file is saved to the PS3 system, then from the function screen, select Settings  >  System Software Update .
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the update.

 

Note: If the PS3 system does not recognize the update file, check if the folder names and file name are correct. Enter folder names and file name using single-byte characters and uppercase letters.

 

To date we are waiting for the PS3 Toolset platform to become available again , the framework has allowed us to install a Custom Firmware directly from an original firmware without the need to use a flasher (provided that the console mounts a factory firmware 3.56 or lower ).

 

WARNING: There are some fraudulent versions of the PS3 Toolset platform that are not authorized and contain incomplete patches that could lead to the bricking of the console, do not use them.
