MAME emulator v0.254 released

Published a new update for MAME (acronym of M ultiple Arcade M achine Emulator ), the program allows us to emulate various Arcade game platforms on Windows PC, MacOS and Linux .

The purpose of this emulation is to document the functioning of arcade coin-ops, preserving the history of video games over time.

This new update adds emulation of the first batch of Namco System 10 games , a titanic job that required the collaboration of several developers around the world who worked on the emulation, encryption and proper dumping of Flash memory chips.

Old favorites like  Namco ‘s Mr. Driller 2 and Mr. Driller G , as well as the spin-off Star Trigon , can be emulated . By the way System 10 also hosted the last two arcade games of Mitchell, Gamshara and Kono and Tako.

From Metro , there are two minigame collections GAHAHA Ippatsudou and the two-in-one mahjong puzzle game GekiToride-Jong Space . Other working Namco games include Kotoba no Puzzle Mojipittan , Panikuru Panekuru and Uchuu Daisakusen: Chocovader Contactee .

Many of the System 10 games that are still marked as not working may already be running and would be playable.

Taiko no Tatsujin 2 , 4 and 6 are playable, although there may be issues with the accuracy of the PlayStation emulation in MAME to mark rhythm games as working.

If you want, you can use the Light Gun peripheral to play the shooter Golgo 13: Juusei no Requiem , although at the moment there are still no sounds and voice acting.

Beyond the Namco System 10 arcade motherboard emulation , this release also adds support for nearly a dozen Yamaha keyboards based on the GEW7 CPU .

Cave CV1000 games now have more realistic blitter performance, meaning you don’t need to change settings to get closer to the arcade experience.

Correctly emulating the absence of a memory management unit in the R4650 CPU used by Namco ‘s System 23 also fixes crashes in Time Crisis 2 .

Some fixes in the SGI workstation emulation make IRIX work again . Some bugs affecting PC Engine and Virtual Boy games have been fixed . Problems with some sound effects in classic Konami arcade games have also been fixed .
